In OTL, Hirohito surrendered in Aug 1945 after two nukes.

In your ATL, he suffered eight more months of isolation and bombing and it took 4 or 5 nukes to get him to surrender.

Why was he so much more stubborn?

CONTAINS SPOILERS! On the matter of bombs, I think your maths is a little out there. Also, he had an ally in the USSR that he did not have at the actual time.

You are right...I was thinking a 3 cities on the list, then a military target or two.

How did you pick the targets? I thought they were Kokura, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Niigata.

The targets I chose were, I believe, all on the select list as possibles. The USAAF left them alone for some time to give them the best possible read on the effectiveness of the bomb on a functioning city. I selected the target for Paula Marie simply to make things different and unexpected, and because it made sense as a quality target.
